The Life After Abuse Foundation (LAAF), an NGO, has appointed some skills professionals into its Advisory Council for the advancement of men’s mental health in Nigeria.
The President of the Foundation, Ms Halima Layeni, made this known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.
Layeni said that the new council members would bring a wealth of experience and expertise, underscoring LAAF’s commitment to enhancing mental health support, particularly for men.
NAN reports that the appointed seasoned experts selected across different fields of human endeavour comprised of Afoma Chiegboka, Femi Boboye, Ikeoluwa Olatoke, Immaculate Odekina and Jeremiah Okpako.
Others include Jide Ogunleye, Munirat Layeni, Rotimi Aroge, Temidayo Musa and Yinka Olonode.
“The appointment of these professionals underscores LAAF’s commitment to advancing men’s mental health support and fostering a society free from stigma.
“With their collective expertise and passion, the council is poised to drive meaningful change and empower men on their journey to healing,” she said.
She underscored the need for the creation of safe spaces, systems and structures for men; where they could go to speak out and seek help when faced with traumas or sexual violence.
LAAF is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing education, mentorship and mental health support to boys and men globally.
It does this through various initiatives such as policy engagement, school outreaches, media activism, as well as playing a vital role in the fight against gender-based violence.
It also fosters a community of healing and support for men’s mental health. (NAN)
