Kwara United have returned to winning ways with victory over visiting Kano Pillars 1-0.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match Day Seven encounter was played at the main bowl of the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
Having lost their last away game at Rivers United 3-0, Kwara United players knew that they must return to winning ways against Kano Pillars and they fought very hard for it.
However, the victory did not come on a platter of gold as Kano Pillars fought hard with their lives to get a point, but they eventually lost the encounter.
Kwara United started the match impressively with the duo of Afeez Musa and Kabiru Balogun tormenting Kano Pillars’ defence.
But despite all efforts to find the back of the net in the first half, Kwara United were unable to get the breakthrough.
Kabiru Balogun eventually netted the only goal of the match via a superb free kick in the 52nd minute as Kwara United recorded a deserved 1-0 win over Kano Pillars.
Speaking to newsmen after the match, Kwara United Coach, Abdullahi Biffo, explained that he was impressed with the performance of his wards, stressing that they will continue to improve in subsequent games.
“Kano Pillars are former champions and they are not a bad side, but I want to say my players did good job only that we failed to score more than one goal,” Biffo explained.
With the win against Kano Pillars, Kwara United have moved to 5th position on the NPFL table, and Biffo and his wards will be traveling to Ibadan to face Shooting Stars on Sunday.
For Coach Ibrahim Musa of Kano Pillars, he said that Pillars lost to a better side, adding that his team has not been convincing so far this season. (NAN)
