The management of the College of Arabic, Islamic, Legal and Management Studies (CAILMS) Ilorin, says the present administration in the state does not owe the school any salary arrears.
This is contained in a statement on Wednesday in Ilorin by Dr. Abdullahi Ayinla, Provost of the college.
Ayinla said that against insinuations by a political party in the state, that staff of the college were being owed salary arrears, the claims were false.
“The attention of the management of CAILMS has been drawn to a spurious and malicious media propaganda by some opposition politicians in the state that our staff are owed salary arrears.
“To put the records straight, it is incumbent on the institution’s management to debunk the false alarm, fabricated and tendentious lies of the party in relation to the institution,” he said.
The provost explained that the institution was established for the training of middle level manpower in various fields such as judiciary, media, library and Information Service, Arabic and Islamic Studies, teaching profession and others.
“The school has been having it so good in terms of receiving government attention, which has given it the hope that CAILMS has come to compete favourably with its peers in Nigeria.
He disclosed that in the last three years, the state government had ensured prompt payments of the backlog of 11 months salary arrears owed the institution’s staff by the former administration of the PDP.
He also said there had been prompt payments of staff salaries on monthly basis, release of accreditation fees which had enabled the college to undergo successful accreditation with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
“This was made possible by the provision of Radio and Television Studios, establishment of e-library, supply of books and other materials, Language Laboratory, among others.
“We have also secured the school land from trespassers, through constant dialogues with the neighboring communities and the present administration promised to embark on the construction of road network within the school.
“Renovations of the Lecture Hall and three blocks of six classrooms were done as well as implementation of the approved minimum wage with cash backing.
“Also, payment of Peculiar Earned Allowances to both academic and non-academic staff, as well as release of N30 million bailout funds to cater for the staff and students welfare,” he said.
Ayinla therefore said that the institution and other state-owned institutions must be eternally grateful to Gov AbdulRahman AbdulRazak for taking the state education sector to an enviable height. (NAN)
