Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara Sunday donated N20 million to fast track the take off of the Muhammad Kamaldeen University in Ilorin.
AbdulRazaq spoke at a Special Prayer and Fund-raiser for Muhammad Kamaldeen Education Foundation (MUKEF) organised by Ansar-ul-Islam Society of Nigeria.
The event took place at the proposed site of the university in Ogidi, Ilorin.
He described the project as a worthy investment in human capital development and urged wealthy individuals to support it.
The university is the initiative of late Islamic scholar and Grand Mufty of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Kamaldeen al-Adaby.
He was also the founder of the Ansar-ul-Islam society.
The governor said the increasing number of university admission seekers in the country justified the need to establish more private universities to bridge the gap.
“This institution is a worthy investment that requires funds and other forms of support.
“When we are counting the universities sited in Kwara State, such as Unilorin, Al-Hikmah, Landmark, Summit, among others, this proposed institution also deserves inclusion,” he said.
He also lauded the vision and contributions of Kamaldeen to the development of both Arabic and Western education in Ilorin and beyond.
Dignitaries at the occasion included the Acting Grand Kadi, Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice Abdullateef Kamaldeen, and Khalifatul Adabiyyeen, Sheikh AbdulQadir Kamaldeen.
Others were Turakin Ilorin and Chairman of the occasion, Mr Saliu Mustapha, National Vice President of the society, Mr Salihu Yusuf, and Hon. Zakary Yusuf.
Chief host and national missioner of the d society, Sheikh Abdulmumin Ayara, said it is the duty of mankind to take from their wealth to help humanity and support noble causes.
Ayara said that this would qualify them for multiple rewards from God.
He thanked the governor for always identifying with the masses and his exceptional passion and investment to reposition the education sector in the state. (NAN)
