About two thousand, seven hundred and fifty inhabitants of Ketti, an Abuja suburb and environs in the Federal Capital Territory, at the weekend benefitted from the free medical services provided by the Catholic Knights and Ladies of St Mulumba, KSM, Wuse Sub Council.
During the exercise which attracted thousands of the villagers with diverse health complaints to St. John’s Catholic Church, Ketti, venue of the KSM Health Outreach, various free medical services estimated at N1.75 million, including, deworming, basic immunization of children below the age of five, and reading glasses were provided to the inhabitants.
Led by Dr. Oliver Amugo, (Worthy Physician) and Dr. Anthonia Njepuome, the KSM health outreach program also included Health Talk to expectant mothers, monitoring of Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Body Weight and Height of patients to detect different stages of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and obesity.
The Grand Knight of Wuse Sub council Dr. Augustine Ategbole, a medical practitioner, informed the gathering that the Knights of St. Mulumba embarked on the program as their Social Responsibility “to extend hands of charity to the less privileged, vulnerable and disadvantaged in the society”.
He explained that KSM a voluntary Catholic Church organization whose members spread over all the states and the nine Catholic Ecclesiastical Provinces in Nigeria, spend their time, talents and treasure to promote humanity as well as supports the church to reach out to remote localities for evangelization.
He disclosed that during the year, the knights visited patients in hospitals with medications and consumable medical items, to orphanages with clothing, food items.
The District Head of Ketti, Mr. Joshua A. Akata, and the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Shaibu commended the Knights on behalf of his community for the gesture and implored them to repeat the exercise in no distant future as the community is deprived of basic social amenities such as pipe borne water, electricity, healthcare facilities, access road, security to mention a few.
