The immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Monday, clarified that the building, housing the relocated Hasiya Bayero Hospital was not sold, as alleged, noting that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf was misinformed.
In a statement issued to explain the status of the hospital, the erstwhile Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, speaking on behalf of the former governor explained that the hospital services at the facility were only temporarily suspended, following its relocation after the completion of Khalifa Sheikh Isyaka Rabiu Paediatric Hospital, one of the abandoned facilities inherited by the Ganduje-led administration.
According to the statement, the new paediatric hospital, which has more bed spaces is now providing better quality services in addition to serving as a training Centre, as well as for research purposes.
Also, Garba clarified that the old Hasiya Bayero was proposed to be converted into a Malnutrition Treatment Center to serve as a referral centre for the treatment of malnutrition.
Furthermore, the Commissioner stated that in addition, a factory for manufacturing Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods(RUTF) for the treatment of malnutrition at the centre was also proposed, including all other health facilities across the state.
He said a Technical Committee was inaugurated by Ganduje’s administration to oversee the conversion process and had even undertaken a study tour to a similar facility at Maradi in the Niger Republic, with a view to setting up a befitting centre.
From available records, according to the statement Garba, clarified that up to May 29, this year, the facility was not sold to any individual or organisation and remains the property of the State government.(PUNCH)
