The Kaduna State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has placed several forms of sanctions on 11 of its members belonging to the group called Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Incorporated (SWANI).
The council announced the decision in the 10-point communique released on Wednesday following the third edition of its monthly congress held in Kaduna.
The communique was signed by Usman Sani as Chairman of the Drafting Committee, Aliyu Bello as Member and Rahila Abdullahi as Secretary.
It said Isaiah Benjamin, who heads the Kaduna State chapter of SWANI, as well as Jacob Dickson, Zakari Haruna, Abdulraheem Aodu, Dahiru Danfulani and Gbenga Abiola are no longer members of the NUJ.
“They will not be our members as long as they identify with SWANI. The Kaduna State Council of the NUJ remains one indivisible body.
“We view with dismay the behaviour of Benjamin in particular in sabotaging the reconciliatory efforts of the council,” the communique stated.
The Kaduna State NUJ also declared that Amina Anebi and Micah Monday would serve a punishment of two months’ sanction and they would not benefit anything from the council during that period.
It however warned Gambo Abubakar, Juliet Nonye Ekwenugo and Habila Darafoi to desist from attending any function or event organised by SWANI.
“SWANI is a body the NUJ does not recognise, HB and our members should not have anything to do with them.
