The Kaduna International polo tournament is set to begin on Saturday, according to the President, Kaduna Polo club, Alhaji Suleiman Abubakar.
Addressing journalists in Kaduna on Sunday, Abubakar said the tournament will run from Oct. 23 to 30.
He said, “27 teams have so far confirmed their participation.
“For the Georgian teams, we have recorded five entries, Georgian is the highest level of polo played on the African continent.
“This year, we expect foreign players from Argentina, South Africa and England,” he said, indicating that players from many other countries will be coming.”
Abubakar noted that the tournament will be COVID–19 compliant and all the necessary steps will be taken to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.
“We hope and promise that we will lift the bar higher, we have continuously tried to improve both the quality of play and level of entertainment.
“With the facilities available, we hope that this year we will not disappoint.
“Teams will be competing for the Imani cup, El-amin, Trobell cup, Shettima Hadija cup, and the traditional cups will all be played for,” he explained.
He thanked the traditional sponsors of the tournament, First Bank PLC, and other sponsors for their support in this year’s tournament.
On his part, the Tournament Manager, Mr Ibrahim Kotongora, revealed that Kaduna polo club received N48.5 million from sponsors. (NAN)
