The Charge D’affaires of Israel to Nigeria, Mr. Nadav Goren on Tuesday reaffirmed Israel’s support for a two-state solution to the ongoing conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
Mr. Goren who stated this when the Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu visited the Embassy of Israel in Abuja, said, “we agree on the need for a peaceful solution in the region but differ on the means to achieve it.”
In order to achieve lasting peace, Goren said “The Israelis and Palestinians must sit together at the negotiating table and decide their shared future”.
The Charge d’ Affairs also stressed that the Prime Minister of Israel, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu would be willing to visit any country that would facilitate direct dialogue to find a lasting solution to the conflict.
He commended the senator for finding time to visit the Embassy and for understanding the complexities of Middle East conflict.
Earlier, Senator Sani had stated that he decided to visit the Embassy in pursuit of global peace after paying a similar visit to the Palestine Embassy recently, adding that it was only “logical, and that is fairness”.
A statement by Tony Obiechina, Senior Media Officer at the Israeli Embassy in Abuja, said the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was a global issue which has been raging for years and he would support United Nations resolution of the conflict.
