Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has urged Turkish firms to invest in irrigation farming and meat processing in the state.
This is contained in a statement by Buni’s Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, on Thursday in Damaturu.
The governor made the plea when he met with the management of AFKO Pivot Irrigation Systems in Turkey.
Mohammed said Buni, who was accompanied by a delegation from the state, noted that irrigation farming would guarantee food sufficiency and economic growth of the state.
“We have the lands, the youthful population for adequate labour, and water resources for large irrigation projects.
“We will deploy resources to make irrigation farming attractive, profitable, and a major source of employment of our youth.
“Government would support individual farmers and cluster farming to cultivate food crops like corn, rice, and wheat.
“Government will also facilitate cultivation of cash crops including Sesame seeds and groundnuts among others,” he quoted Buni as saying.
The statement also quoted Abdulgani Affura, AFKO General Manager, as saying the company would provide all the required equipment to develop irrigation farming in Yobe.
“We are working in 45 countries across the world with a few in Africa, we will manufacture the required equipment that is most suitable to your environment,” he assured.
Meanwhile, the delegation also had fruitful discussions with meat processing companies for investment into livestock production in the state.
Buni said: ” Yobe state is a hub of livestock deposit in Nigeria, we will take advantage of the large deposit to process and export meat to other parts of Nigeria and abroad.
“We are committed to processing both ruminants and cattle meats to provide healthy meat locally and internationally.”
Ismail Bagdu, General Manager, Teknotes Tasarim, one of the meat processing firms, said the company would provide abattoirs with modern equipment for packaging meat for exports.
Melik Ceyhun, International Manager, CEMSAN, another meat firm, also expressed his commitment to invest in livestock development of Yobe to turnaround the economy of the state.(NAN). READ ALSO:
