Having been properly arraigned before a Port Harcourt High Court, the Majority Leader of the Rivers House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd, on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to the six-count charge leveled against him.
The lawmaker was arraigned before Justice Latan Nyordee, on a six-count charge of attempted murder, conspiracy, wounding, assault, and malicious damage.
The Judge, contended that the oral announcement made earlier by the Attorney General of the State, Nwogu Boms, was premature, saying “Now that the accused is properly arraigned, he could take his plea”.
Following the plea, the Attorney-General therefore, announced his appearance and took over the case.
Also, the Police Counsel, Donald Demwigwe, raised no objection to the Attorney General taking over the case.
Counsel to the House Leader, Beluolisa Nwofor, told the Judge that he had applied for his bail through a motion on notice which the court graciously allowed him to argue since his offences were bailable.
Justice Nyordee, said the motion for bail would be heard in the next sitting, just as he struck out the counter affidavit.
Consequently, the Judge ordered that the accused, Llyod be reminded in prison custody while adjourning the case to August 7, 2013 for hearing,
