Peter Obi has dismissed rumors of his arrest, confirming that he is currently at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The speculation arose amidst ongoing exchanges between Obi and Felix Morka, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), over recent death threat allegations.
In a statement shared via his official Twitter account on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Obi urged his supporters to disregard the claims, labeling them as completely false.
“I have been informed about the fake news regarding my alleged arrest. Let me categorically state that this is untrue. I am presently at my home in Onitsha, Anambra State. These fabricated stories about me seem to have become a routine for some individuals,” he tweeted.
The former governor of Anambra State also referenced a similar rumor in 2024, where it was falsely reported that he had been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).
“Last September, while I was in Rwanda, it was falsely reported that DSS had invaded my house. Now, while I am at home in Onitsha, they claim I’ve been arrested in Abuja. The intentions behind these fabrications are far from positive. However, we must remain focused on addressing the critical challenges facing our nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Felix Morka has clarified his earlier statements about Obi, which reportedly sparked negative reactions, including alleged death threats.
Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, Morka explained that his remarks were a direct response to a question about Obi being labeled a “voodoo economist” and a “prophet of doom.”
Morka also challenged Obi to provide evidence of the alleged threats against him and his family.
