Apparently not comfortable with the call for the resignation or sack of the embattled Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, a group of Igbo intellectuals and technocrats has strongly condemned the move to compel the Minister to quit the Jonathan’s Cabinet.
Speaking under the aegis of ‘Igbo Ekulie’, the group also described the call for her resignation as an evil political and ethnic agenda that portends danger for Nigeria’s future.
The groups’ President, Joey Chuku, and General Secretary, Okechukwu Okeke, in a statement said allegations of impropriety in her approval of the purchase of two armoured cars at a cost of N255 million by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) are unfounded as available evidence shows the transaction passed the test of due process.
Igbo Ekulie, also lamented that past pension, oil subsidy and power sector scandals that have largely been swept under the carpet, wondering why Oduak is being ferociously attacked because she is perceived to be quite close to President Goodluck Jonathan.
“We are sounding a note of warning to those behind this evil agenda and marginalisation of the Igbo nation in the Nigerian Project to desist forthwith and leave Princess Stella Oduah alone because if their plot succeeds, it makes political future of Ndi Igbo and the entire Nigeria very uncertain and precarious.
“We will not hesitate to invoke the anger and wrath of our forefathers to visit these Igbo haters after all the humiliation, intimidation and marginalisation against Ndi Igbo since the Civil War which supposedly ended 44 years ago,” the statement reads in part.
Also, the group noted that Oduah’s persecution is funded by powerful political forces who are enemies of the Igbo nation and Jonathan’s transformation agenda which the Aviation minister has visibly implemented in the aviation sector.
The statement reads further, “We view with suspicion the sponsored attacks on the Aviation Minister by some sectional sponsored groups, press and individuals as another way of humiliation and gratuitous insults to the sensibilities of Ndi Igbo in spite of the enviable track record of this our excellent Igbo daughter within a short time she has managed the aviation sector.
“We reject in totality the call for her resignation and sack emanating from certain quarters because she is innocent of these frivolous allegations. The Igbo nation has suffered enough in the Nigerian Project and call for her sack will amount to paying the Igbo nation with ingratitude for the massive support President Jonathan Administration has received from Ndi Igbo when others deserted him.
“Igbo Ekulie wonders what happens to billions of naira contracts and supplies by previous administrations in Nigeria that were not duly processed and rule of law compliant, talk less of the armoured cars supply that went through due diligence, due process and rule of law.
“What has happened to the $16 billion spent on PHCN? What happened to Lawan/Otedola bribery scandal? Now, how can all these be compared to the N225 million armoured car supply that went due process and rule of law?
“Why must Ndi Igbo continue to be harassed in Nigeria? Please leave the Minister of Aviation alone. She did nothing unusual. She is a great patriot”.
