Super Eagles and Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi is optimistic that his Super Eagles career which stated late will go well for him.
Ameobi told Prompt News Online that he is delighted to be part of the Eagles set up now.
“It’s been a long time coming, I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be with the team, I am just happy to be here”
“So many things got in the way but I am here now, it’s better late than never, I am happy to be representing the Super Eagles”
Shola has represented England in the junior level but made the switch to represent Nigeria but failed to be part of the squad for the Nation cup in South Africa as his coach Alan Pardew, prevented him from honoring the call up.
On the chances of his brother Sammy dorning the colors of Nigeria, the Kogi State-born goal poacher says the decision of his brother representing Nigeria is entirely his to make but as family he will chip in one or two words to convince him to play for Nigeria.
“He is a young man he makes his decisions, at the end of the day he’s got his own career to look after whatever he chooses we will support him as a family”
“But of course I will try to encourage him to play for the Super Eagles, hopefully we will see what happens”
Shola Ameobi who has three caps to his credit for the Eagles scored his first goal for the Super Eagles in an International Friendly against Burkina-Faso in Kaduna, Nigeria.
