A pro-Democracy Non-governmental organization – Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has condemned as outrageous; reprehensible, despicable and crime against humanity the horrendous attack of peaceful protesters allegedly belonging to Indigenous People of Biafra in Onitsha Anambra State by the Nigerian Security forces.
The Rights group has said that the killing of scores of civilian demonstrators by the combined forces of armed police and the Nigerian military constitute a grave crime against humanity which would be tested and tried in the global crime court in no time just as it warned those peddling false rumors of the alleged burning of the Onitsha Mosque to stop their evil agenda which constitute a hate filled crime meant to spark off genocide against Igbo living outside of South East of Nigeria.
HURIWA said the President Muhammadu Buhari’s Government would be brought before global justice forum to account for the precious lives of youthful peaceful protesters murdered by the security operatives under his watch.
The group has also condemned the continuous illegal detention of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of the Europe Based Radio Biafra and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by the Nigerian Government in clear breach of subsisting court orders granting him bail.
HURIWA said Mr. Nnamdi Kanu has committed no offence to warrant his current travails but that the Muhammadu Buhari’s Government is embarking on widespread attacks of the constitutionally guaranteed Fundamental Freedoms which include the Freedom of Speech and association.
In a statement signed jointly by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA said there was absolutely no constitutional justification for the deployment of lethal force by government against peaceful protesters.
“We strongly condemn this aggression against civilians by the current government and we call on World leaders to intervene before Nigeria evolves to a totalitarian contraption under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari an erstwhile military dictator”.
