Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory FCT) have decried the frequent power outage being experienced in the nation’s seat of government which they said has added to the economic hardship they are going through at the moment.
This is even as they said that the unbearable weather condition with its attendant heatwave has conspired to make their lives more miserable in the capital city which has no good transportation system and social amenities like public water fountain which residents could go to mitigate the heat in the city.
According to an FCT resident Alhaji Ibrahim Dekeri, the frequent power outage and the excessive heat in the territory is driving people into insanity, adding that incessant power cut and adverse weather condition have added to the stress of the residents who are currently passing through economic hardship.
“It is no longer news that Nigerians are suffering from the worst economic hardship in the recent memory yet when they go back to where they live they will not see public power supply. This is most unfortunately”, he said.
Also, a civil servant who spoke to Prompt News on the condition of anonymity in Abuja said the incessant power outage in FCT has reached an alarming stage as FCT residents in recent time do not see up to one hour steady power supply.
Said he: “If any FCT resident tells you that he or she does not feel the heatwave, it is a lie. The same goes for the economic hardship which has impoverished many people. Truly, people of the FCT are experiencing the worst period of their lives at the moment.
For Mrs. Halimatu Ogundeji who runs a cold store at Lokogoma area of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), the cost of keeping her business going with the frequent power outage has gone very high and she wants the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to rectify the problems of power cut.
Chief Albert Ojinmaduka who resides in Gwarimpa is bemoaning the frequent power outage in FCT, saying that residents are spending too much to buy petrol for their vehicles and generating sets both in their business premises and residents.
He therefore called on the authorities to do something about the frequent power outage in FCT especially at a time like this when the weather condition is too bad, pointing out that the situation has added to the problems FCT residents are going through.
Meanwhile, AEDC has been explaining why there is power outage in Abuja and efforts being made to sort out the problems which affected locations such as Dantata Estate, FO1, Chikakore, Byazhin, Byazhin Across, Gbazango, Guida community, Military Pension Board area, and its environs.
In a release made available to the media late Tuesday, AEDC attributed the power outage being experienced in Abuja to a fault affecting the 33kV NIPP feeder and repairs on the transmission station at AT4.
The management of AEDC made this known in a statement posted via its official X handle on Tuesday night.
“The Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc. (AEDC) wishes to notify its esteemed customers in (Abuja) that the power outage being experienced is due to a fault affecting the 33kV NIPP feeder and repairs on the transmission station at AT4 are ongoing,” the company said. READ ALSO:
