Unidentified gunmen attacked the Ijegun Egba community in Ori Ade Local Government Area of Lagos State, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to several others.
The victims, identified as Gbenga Areagbo, a 40-year-old man, and another individual named Oladapo, were reportedly shot when the assailants stormed the area on Tuesday, firing indiscriminately.
Witnesses stated that the attackers took the victims’ bodies with them before fleeing.
Residents, now living in fear, believe the assailants came from a nearby riverine settlement.
Reports indicate that a group of armed individuals also raided the local jetty, robbing people of their money and valuables.
According to a local resident, the attackers had previously assaulted a man named Wasiu Ademola, inflicting injuries on him and attempting to take him away by boat.
The incident was reported to the authorities.
Three days later, the armed group reportedly returned, targeting people in the Zone 2 area.
Another resident stated that the assailants had someone identifying members of the community but, when they failed to locate their intended targets, they resorted to robbing residents and bystanders.
A community leader confirmed that the attack was reported to law enforcement and described how the assailants arrived in multiple vehicles and on motorcycles, carrying firearms and machetes.
“They approached a young man, asked if he was Lateef, and when he denied it, they attacked him and took the bodies away through the jetty,” the community leader recounted.
Security agencies have since launched an investigation, and authorities are working to restore safety in the area.
