Guinea-Bissau national team assistant coach, Emiliano Te, is confident his team will perform well against Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
A disappointing performance from Egypt in the opening game of the 2021 AFCON saw them suffer a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria.
The loss puts Egypt in fourth and last place of Group D, with zero points, behind Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, and Sudan.
The Pharaohs will now face Guinea-Bissau in match-day 2, in what will be a must win clash in order for them to maintain their chances of qualifying to the round of 16.
In only their third AFCON participation, Guinea-Bissau managed to hold Sudan to a 0-0 draw and will hope to maintain their defensive solidity against Mohamed Salah’s Egypt.
The Djurtus will be without their head coach, Baciro Candé, after he tested positive for Covid-19 so it will be former international Emiliano Te who will be in charge of the team.
“We are constantly working to improve and have started training and preparing for the Egypt match,” Te said in the pre-match press conference.
“They have strong players and a cohesive team, and we have experienced players who want to win. We have many absences, but we will deal with the situation.
“Mohamed Salah is one of the best players in the world, and Egypt has more than one foreign-based player. We will face all of them, not just Salah,” he added.
