Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe Sate has pledged to continue to support security agencies in their quest to ensure security of lives and property in the state.
Yahaya made the pledge while receiving the new Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3 Armoured Division, Jos, Brig. Gen. Bello Mohammed, on Friday.
This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Gombe by Director-General, Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Mr Ismaila Uba-Misilli.
The governor said that his administration was determined to ensuring close synergy with heads of security agencies with a view to sustaining the prevailing peace being enjoyed in the state.
Yahaya told the new GOC that “Gombe is peaceful compared to other states in the region but security challenges in the neighbouring states have been manifesting in Gombe.
“Gombe shares border with all the five states of the North East region as such we will not relent in prioritizing matters on security through close synergy with security and other law enforcement agencies,’’ the governor assured.
The governor also pledged support to the Nigerian Army wing operating in Gombe through provision of any required operational logistics in order to boost the morale of the personnel in discharging their duties.
He lauded the role of security agencies in combating criminal activities and other forms of violence in the state.
Earlier, Brig. Gen. Mohammed said that his visit was to formally present himself to the governor having taken over from his predecessor after the recent change of leadership in the army.
Mohammed said: “I want to assure your Excellency and the good people of Gombe State that we shall continue to operate professionally for sustainable peace and security in the state.
“We will work with other security agencies, loyal citizens to ensure that the peaceful environment in the state is improved upon.
“We cannot do it alone. We’ll work with all to get the best.”(NAN)
