By Godwin Ojoshimite, Lafia Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has urged Nigerians to continue to tolerate one another and pray for peace to ensure development of the country.
The governor made the call on Wednesday at the commemoration of this year’s Arm Forces Remembrance day in Lafia.
Governor Al-Makura who was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Dameshi Luka, said it was imperative for Nigerians to pray for peace considering the challenges confronting the nation.
“I am calling on Nigerians to shun violence and embrace the spirit of brotherhood, love and unity. These are the only things that would bind us together as a nation”, he said.
He also congratulated the armed forces for celebrating and remembering the fallen heroes that sacrificed their lives in order to keep the nation in unity.
According to him, “Men of the armed forces and other security agencies always work round the clock to ensure that we sleep with our eyes closed.”
He commended the security agencies for the role they played in the state during the crisis that has engulfed some part of the state last year.
Almakura also announced the donation of N2 million to the Nasarawa State Chapter of the legion to support their activities.
Also speaking at the occasion, David Masaka, the State’s legion chairman said that life has not
been easy for the ex-service men/women as a result of neglect by the
government.
He therefore called on the Federal Government to give priority to the ex- service men considering how patriotic they served the nation.
