The Gombe government has inaugurated a new Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) policy, to enhance transparency, efficiency and accountability in project implementation in the state.
Gov. Inuwa Yahaya said this during the unveiling of the policy on Tuesday in Gombe.
Inuwa said effective M&E framework was crucial in ensuring government’s programmes deliver maximum benefits to the citizens,
Represented by his deputy, Manasseh Jatau, the governor highlighted the importance of data driven decision making and continuous monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of policies and programmes.
According to him, M&E framework aligns with the state’s 10-Year Development Agenda, designed to ensure government’s policies and projects meet public expectations.
“The Monitoring and Evaluation Policy is designed to institutionalise a system that systematically assesses all government policies, strategies, programmes and projects. This will help prevent poorly executed or abandoned initiatives, a challenge encountered with previous plans,” he said.
He said the policy would guide the state to monitor and assess its priorities, to ensurd regular evaluations of government investments and their impact on the public.
“Periodic performance reports and lessons learned will enhance evidence-based decision-making, thus strengthening governance practices within the state,” the governor said.
Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, Chief of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, commended the state government for adopting the M&E policy, which had already been launched at the national level.
She highlighted he importance of M&E in improving the efficiency of government initiatives by providing real-time feedback, identify challenges and suggest necessary adjustments.
“The introduction of this policy reflects the state government’s commitment to transparency, accountability and results focused governance,” she said.
THE UN agency, she said, would continue to offer both technical and financial support to facilitate successful implementation of the policy.
Also, Wayne Bacake, Chief of Planning and Monitoring, UNICEF, lauded the gesture, escribed policy as a vital step towards sustainable progress.
“This policy will enable us to track how the state is advancing towards its development goals.
“By 2030, we will be able to measure our progress against the key priorities outlined in the state’s development plan” he said. (NAN).
