Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini claimed he didn’t plan for Ademola Lookman to be substituted in the club’s Serie A clash with Lazio,” Prompt News reports.
La Dea lost 1-0 to Marco Baroni’s side at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday night.
The defeat further put a dent on Atalanta’s chances of winning the title.
Lookman was mistakenly subbed off 15 minutes from time.
Gasperini admitted he had the intention of replacing Brazil defender Ederson and not the winger.
“There was a mistake. Only Retegui was subbed to come off,” the Italian told DAZN (via Football Italia) after the game.
“Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding between ‘Ede’ [Ederson] and ‘Ade’ [Lookman] and we paid a high price for it.”
