10-women Super Falcons put up a brave fight but failed to make it to the final of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations following 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to Morocco.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes of dramatic football action.
The Super Falcons were reduced to 10 women three minutes after the break following red card issued to Halimat Ayinde.
The Nigerian girls however took the lead a minute after the hour mark.
Morocco defender Yasmin Mirabet scrambled the ball home under pressure from Uchenna Kanu.
The lead lasted four minutes with Sanna Mssoudy netting the equaliser for the Atlas Lionesses.
The Super Falcons were further depleted when Rasheedat Ajibade was sent off for poor tackle.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Super Falcons held on for the remainder of the game.
In the penalty shootout, Morocco converted all five kicks, while Ifeoma Onumonu missed for Nigeria.
