Iran head coach Amir Ghalenoei admitted his team were second best against Nigeria, saying the Super Eagles proved too strong in Friday’s international friendly, Prompt News reports.
The Super Eagles won the thrilling encounter 2-1.
Moses Simon opened the scoring for Nigeria with a sublime finish after seven minutes.
Sevilla striker Akor Adams doubled Nigeria’s lead six minutes after the break.
Mehdi Taremi reduced the deficit for Iran in the 67th minute.
“I think this was a very useful preparation game, especially since we were able to implement Plan B in defence against a strong and physical team like Nigeria,” Ghalenoei was quoted by Tasnim News Agency.
“Nigeria was a very good team, and all eleven players on this team play in major European leagues such as Spain, Italy, England, France, Greece and Turkey.
“The national team needs such games. We also tried to use more players. Fortunately, with the new rules and the possibility of making eight substitutions, we had a good opportunity to evaluate different players.”
