Nigeria’s Super Falcons Technical Adviser, Thomas Dennerby has commended his players for the hard earned victory over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in Tuesday’s first semi final match at Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana.
He told Prompt News Online exclusively after the epic encounter that was decided by penalty shootout, Dennerby gave kudos to the players for rising up to the occasion when it mattered most to grind out a win which guaranteed Nigeria a ticket to participate in the FIFA Women’s World Cup final in France next year.
Nigeria defeated Cameroon 4-2 on penalties after full and extra time could not produce a winner but the coach has some kind words for his players for the victory.
“I am really happy with my players for getting the job done. The match was quite difficult for us but the players rose to the occasion. They may not have played to my satisfaction but they did enough to win the game. I appreciate them for the result”, Dennerby said.
Although he did not single out any particular for praise, the experienced tactician commended
the resilience of his players in the face of strong opposition like the Cameroonians on the day.
The Swede also thanked the entire members of the Super Falcons delegation to Ghana- assistant coaches, backroom staff and administrators who have worked hard for the progress of the team in the on-going 11th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Ghana.
