Third African representatives in the summer FIFA Women’s World Cup final in France, Cameroon earlier today lost 0-1 to host China in the final of Four-Nation Tournament in Wuhan.
A first half strike by Wang Shanshan was all China needed to edge out the Indomitable Lionesses for the Gold Cup. Cameroon got the Silver trophy as consolidation for their participation.
In South Africa today, the Banyana Banyana was forced to a 1-1 draw at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban. A 26-minute goal scored by Linda Motlhalo threw the home fans into estacy.
But the Send-forth party was nearly spoiled by a fierce fight back by the Raggae GirlZ of Jamaica when Khadija Shaw struck in the 59th minute with the equalizer after Goalie C. Dlimini was beaten flat.
The South Africa Football Association (SAFA) used the occasion to host the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour. The trophy was displayed at the stadium for fans to savour and the Banyana Banyana players to touch it and beginning to believe that they can go to France to lift the coveted trophy.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Falcons will tomorrow in Spain test their might against Canada, a regular campaigner in the FIFA Women’s World Cup final. Canada beat the highly rated Team England 1-0 two days ago London.
