By Olusegun Lawrence Dr. William Babatunde Fowler has been confirmed by the Senate as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.
Presenting the report of the Committee on Finance at plenary, Senator John, said Dr. Fowler was qualified to be chairman of the FIRS and there was no petition against his nomination.
In his contribution, Senator Gbenga Ashafa (Lagos) said that Dr. Fowler brought innovation to tax collection in Lagos which made it possible to hit target.
He advised the Senate to hold Fowler to the promise he made while undergoing Senate screening that he will mobilise more than 500 corporate bodies in Nigeria to pay tax and that he will also engage more than 5 million Nigerians to be tax payers on the national scale after he assume office.
President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier nominated Fowler as Executive Chairman of FIRS and sent his name to the Senate for confirmation.
