Lady Helen Owie, wife of Sir Rowland Owie, former Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, has passed away at the age of 71.
She died peacefully in Abuja on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, following a brief illness, according to a statement personally signed by Senator Owie.
Reflecting on their more than five decades together, Owie described his late wife as a unifying force in his life and family.
“When Helen came into my life over 50 years ago, she lovingly made our home a place of peace.
She brought unity to my family and showed my late mother, Aghatise Owie—who bore 11 children for my father, with me as the only surviving child—deep compassion and honor,” he wrote.
He praised Lady Helen as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a woman of strong faith and humility.
“She was God-fearing, wise in managing resources, and completely committed to our family. Her life reflected kindness, grace, and service.
She was my pillar, my peace, and my partner in all things.”
Lady Helen Owie is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and many others whose lives she touched.
The Owie family has asked for prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul, and for the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mediatrix of All Graces, to intercede and welcome her into eternal rest.
Details of funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
