Elite clubs across Europe have unanimously rejected the proposed Super League. This is coming despite the European Court of Justice ruling that the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) and Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) acted against competition law when they blocked the formation of the European Super League in 2021.
The European Super League is a proposed seasonal football competition for clubs in Europe with 64 teams for men and 32 teams for women.
The league was proposed by a commercial enterprise called the European Super League Company. However, football clubs across Europe have continued to voice their grievances against the proposed league.
In its statement, UEFA said it remains resolute in its commitment to uphold the European football pyramid, ensuring that it continues to serve the broader interests of society. “We will continue to shape the European sports model collectively with national associations, leagues, clubs, fans, players, coaches, EU institutions, governments and partners alike”, the statement ready.
According to the European football governing body, “we trust that the solidarity-based European football pyramid that the fans and all stakeholders have declared as their irreplaceable model will be safeguarded against the threat of breakaways by European and national laws.”
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin however said the body will not try to stop any team from participating in the super league saying “Football is not for sale”.
Supporting this stand, Manchester United in a club statement said, “they remain fully committed to participation in UEFA competitions, and to positive cooperation with UEFA, the Premier League, and fellow clubs on the continued development of the European game. The Chief Executive Officer of Bayern Munich, Jan-Christian Dreesen also reacted saying, “It’s very clear: the door for the Super League at FC Bayern remains closed”.
He said such a competition would represent an attack on the importance of domestic leagues and the statics of European football.
Other clubs who have rejected the Super League via their press statements include, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Sevilla, Valencia, Villarreal, Borussia Dortmund amongst others. READ ALSO:

However, in defense of the Super League, Super League CEO Bernd Reichart said, “all Super League matches will be broadcast for free while revenues and solidarity will be guaranteed for clubs.
“Similarly, Real Madrid Manager, Carlo Ancelloti threw his weight in support of the Super league. He said, this decision is important for football. He said, “Some clubs are not convinced but I think this can be a positive thing for everyone”.
