FC Robo Queens of Lagos State on Sunday beat Edo Queens Football Club 1-0 in the final match of the third edition of Flying Officers Cup in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the match, played at the old Parade ground in Area 10, FC Robo scored the goal in the first half when Opeyemi Ajakaiye of FC Robo Queens score the only goal in the 26th minutes to register her team as a defending champion.
On the resumption of the second half, Edo Queens fought well but they were unable to utilise all their scoring chance.
FC Robo Queens also continue with the spirit of scoring more goals as all their efforts end up not fruitful.
Speaking after the match, Emmanuel Osahon, the head coach of FC Robo Queens, said he is the happiest man on earth.
“I have played three finals this year from three different tournaments and I lost the first two and now I’m happy that I won this Flying Officers Cup here in Abuja.
“I played in Women AITEO Cup ffinal match match I lost and I also played in Betsy Obaseki Women Football tournament in Edo final match which I also lost.
“But today’s final match ended with a victory from my side, the secret of this victory is consistency.
“Learn from your mistake and be consistent in what you do, we are entertainers and we will always give what we have,”the coach said.
On his part the coach of Edo Queens FC, John Niyi, said they need to work more to face the upcoming Nigeria Women Premier Football League (NWPL).
“We give God the glory and adoration, it was a pre season game, we both played and FC Robo is on the better side.
“In the Obaseki tournament in Edo, we played in the-third place, we need to work more harder and make sure we face the upcoming league,” the coach said.
NAN reports that in the third-place match Osun Babes defeated Confluence Queens of Lokoja 10-9 on penalty shoot.
NAN reports that FC Robo Queens, the winner of the third edition of the Flying Officers Cup, went home with N 2 million, the second, Edo Queens FC, N 1,51 million while N500,000 went for second place.
Osun Babes FC N 1 million Naira for placing third while Confluence Queens received N700,000 in the fourth place.
NAN reports that 16 teams participated in the the third edition of the Flying Officers Cup.
The 2021 Flying Officer’s Cup which started on Oct. 10 has ended today. (NAN)
