Re-elected squash federation president plans to consolidate on past achievements

Boye Oyerinde, re-elected President of the Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF) plans to consolidate on his past achievements and attract more sponsors to the sport.

Oyerinde retained the presidency of the NSF by the closest of margins at the election held earlier in the month by defeating his opponent, Sunday Wilson, by six votes to five.

“One of our focuses also will be to build a database for players and administrators such as referees and coaches,’’ he told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday.

“As we speak, we don’t have the names of our players and referees.

“The good thing for us is that we’re not starting where we started in 2017. For the first time, we have continuity.

“We had a couple of training for coaches and players; a player is as good as his as the saying goes,’’ Oyerinde said.

The NSF president told also NAN that: “ensuring that players get to play regularly is a goal the federation is focused on.

“Hopefully we will get our coaches involved in more tournaments, so they can watch their wards play more; by so doing everyone involved gains more experience.

“In the last two tournaments we played, the playing format was changed from knockout basis to continuity to ensure that players play nonstop and the officials are officiating more.

“We expect to see more tournaments across the country; developmental growth is crucial and we intend to sustain this.’’ (NAN)
