With two weeks to the first leg of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup African qualifier match between Nigeria and host Guinea, the interim Head Coach of the national U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, Abimbola Olowookere is upbeat about a favorable result for his squad away from home.
Speaking today after his team’s morning training session at the FIFA Goal Project pitch at Package B of the Abuja National Stadium, Abuja, the youthful coach disclosed that the Flamingos technical crew and backroom staff are with very hard to get the girls to be in good shape before the first leg in Conakry , Guinea on March 1. He argued that there are still work to do before the team will travel out of the country but he has an idea of the team he will present in Guinea.
Said he, “I have the idea of my team, although it is still a work in progress. I have seen the players at close quarters in the last one and half weeks and we are still working hard to ensure that the squad we will present in Guinea will do the country proud. I am impressed with what I have seen of the players and I believe that with time they will come good”.
Olowookere who is the Chief Coach of Lagos state- based Nigeria Women’s Premier League (NWPL) club, Dream Stars FC revealed that he and his assistants are working round the clock to avoid the loopholes that made Nigeria not to qualify for the last FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final in Uruguay. He said that they are looking out for talented players who will help the team to succeed in the assignment at hand.
