The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu on Thursday in Ile-Ife, Osun state inaugurated a 2.7 kilometre road, named after her, at the premises of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU),
Mrs Tinubu also inaugurated the Ojaja Students Hostels and Pavilion in the institution.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the projects were executed by the traditional ruler, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja ll.
“I am delighted to be here, at the Obafemi Awolowo University, 41 years after I graduated from this great citadel of learning, which was then the University of Ife.
“I thank Oba Ogunwusi, CFR., Ọjájá II and I rejoice with you ahead of your 50th Birthday anniversary.
“May you celebrate many more birthdays on the throne of your forefathers in divine health, joy, peace, happiness and prosperity.
“Roads have always been a symbol of progress which opens up pathways to safety and economic growth.
“It is my hope that this road will become a valuable asset for the University and facilitate easy access for the students and the entire University community,” she said
According to the first lady, the significance of continuous infrastructure renewal cannot be overemphasised in creating a conducive academic environment.
While appreciating the leadership of the University for making the day a reality, the first lady noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu, was focused on education and youth development,
She assured that the administration would ensure that all the youths have unhindered access to quality education irrespective of their financial status.
The first lady also urged all students across the country to avail themselves of the opportunity presented by the Federal Government with the Students Loan Scheme.
“To further support the efforts of Mr. President, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) which I chair, also commenced the National Scholarship Programme (NASP) for Tertiary Education.
“To this extent, we provide N1 million annually and brand-new laptops each to forty-seven (47) indigent students across the nation for the duration of their course of study.
“I have also adopted education as the focus of the #We Are Equal Campaign by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) in Nigeria.
“To launch this campaign, we re-introduced, the Alternative High School for Girls across the nation,” she said.
She said the education projects were strictly in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the Federal Ministry of Education.
Before offering royal blessings, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi described the first lady as a dependable and caring mother of the nation. He appealed to all Nigerians to support the current administration.
Dignitaries at the event that received the first lady include the Osun state Deputy Governor, Mr Kola Adewusi; Wife of Osun state Governor Mrs Titilola Adeleke, Wife of Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Kafayat Oyetola.
Others are Sen. All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, traditional rulers among others and the management of the institution. (NAN).
