The Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, has fined Nigeria for breach of order and security during their 2026 World Cup playoffs against the Democratic Republic of Congo last November.
Democratic Republic of Congo were also fined for the same offence.
Nigeria will pay 1,000 Swiss Franc for this breach, while DRC will pay 5,000 Franc.
There were unruly scenes in the aftermath of the penalty shootout that Congo won 4-3 to advance to the Intercontinental Playoffs in Mexico later this month.
The world soccer ruling body also emphasized that the decisions were taken on the merit of each case and its circumstances and the judgement may be subject to appeal
FIFA were however silent on Nigeria’s protest against DRC for allegedly parading several ineligible players in the match.
