The Federal government plans to digitise its revenue collection drive through the deployment of space technology across different sectors of the economy.
The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) Mohammed Bello Shehu disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday at the launch of the new revenue lines using space technology.
He said the launch is in line with the implementation of the Presidential initiative on revenue optimization and digitalization via space technology, adding that the traditional sources and methods of revenue generation, are not only outdated but no longer sufficient to meet the evolving needs of the country.
He added that “Stakeholders must think innovatively and collaboratively to unlock new opportunities the innovation
“Also, the partnership with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NARSDA), who are the brain behind the idea of using space technology to unlock the revenue potential will be driven across Ministries, Departments and Agencies,”
He added that It is very expedient that the Commission called for this meeting, being the agency saddled with the constitutional responsibilities of monitoring the accruals to and disbursement of revenue from the Federation Account to the three (3) tiers of government, as well as offering necessary advice to the Federal and State Governments on fiscal efficiency and how their revenue can be increased, as stated in Paragraph 32 (a and c) Part 1 to the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
He called on all relevant stakeholders to partner with both the Commission and NASRDA to build a nation that is prosperous, just and equitable for all.
