Nigerian Government is seeking the review of the 1974 Technical Cooperation Agreement regarding its relations with the German Government.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Mr Nebolisa Anako stated this when the German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Ms. Svenja Schulze, paid him a courtesy visit in his office, in Abuja.
According to the Permanent Secretary, discussions had been initiated by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the German Embassy.
Anako said said the visit would afford the two countries the opportunity to discuss and exchange views on the future bilateral cooperation as well as provide the forum for a coordinated approach to enhance the economic cooperation between both countries.
The priority areas, according to him, include sustainable economic development, training and employment, transformation of agri-food systems, climate and energy: and health, social protection and population policy, among others.
The Permanent Secretary thanked the German Government for its support in the Siemen Project on improving power transmission and distribution in Nigeria. He also appreciated it for the various projects being funded by the German Government through the KFW Development Bank and the Projects Executing Agency, the German International Cooperation(GIZ).
He assured of the Federal Government’s commitment towards the realisation of mutual objectives of the Nigeria-German Development Cooperation.
In her remarks, the German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Ms. Svenja Schulze, commended the bilateral existing relations between both countries which started in 1960. READ ALSO:

She underscored the importance of partnerships and networking between both countries to overcome the challenges of food insecurity, climate change, among others.
She pointed out that Nigeria has been a strong partner in German’s Development Cooperation, while expressing optimism that the visit would further strengthen the bilateral relations of both countries.
Schulze said going forward, Germany’s African partnership would focus more on social and environmentally friendliness as well as gender sensitivity in all areas of its cooperation including sustainable economic development and trade.
