By Ladi Patrick Minister of State for FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide has assured that a white paper on the lingering chieftaincy crisis in Kwali Area Council will be out within a month to implement the report recently submitted by a 13-man committee set up by the administration.
The Minister who was speaking on Monday in her office while receiving a three volume report of a 15-man committee also described the report as another fulfillment of her promise to resolve the crisis during the tenure of this administration.
Akinjide said, “we will set up a white paper committee within a week with a time frame of about a month to study the report and the recommendations for action and implementation because this administration is committed to finding a lasting peace in FCT”
She stressed that there was need for advocacy to create awareness on the existence of chieftaincy in the FCT as they are major stakeholders to achieving the transformation agenda of the present administration especially at the grassroots.
The Minister also observed that the traditional rulers were key in the implementation of government policies as they are close to the people in the grassroots especially as the 2015 elections draw near to avoid further escalation of violence in the FCT.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Philip T Aduda, a member of the Senate assured that the report if implemented would proffer a lasting solution to the crisis in the area.
Aduda said town hall meetings and public hearing were conducted to obtain peoples’ view as well as a review of the previous reports submitted on the crisis to find out why they were not implemented before coming out with fresh recommendations.
According to him, “the committee has experienced members who have been part of history in the area council who are working to ensure that history will judge us if we do not ensure that there is peaceful co-existence in Kwali”.
