Officials of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT Chapter have begun awareness campaign ahead of this year’s social week events scheduled for next month in Abuja.
Led by its Chairman, Comrade Kayode Adeniyi, both excos and members of 2017 SWAN week committee visited the headquarters of New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja where they were received by Director of Finance and Accounts, Mrs Adijat Lawal who stood in for Managing Director, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
While reeling out the essence of the visit, Comrade Adeniyi solicited for full support of the organisation in all its activities especially during the week-long events which would include a five-aside football, Table Tennis competitions, seminar, dinner among others.
The SWAN Leader who acknowledged the role of NAN in sports reportage, enjoined the management to sustain the tempo of promoting all the over 30 sports in the country.
Responding, Mrs Lawal who played Table Tennis as a young Athlete assured that the News Agency would continue to assist media professionals in achieving their career path, adding; “In NAN, we are committed towards upholding the professional tenets of journalism in Nigeria. On behalf of our Managing Director, I want to specially assure you that we will always encourage our Staff who are your members to take part in your activities.
“Regarding your upcoming programme, we will ensure we give it adequate reportage and support in any way we can to make sure it become a reality. Always feel free to identify with us.”
The 2017 SWAN week committee headed by veteran Journalist, Mr Mike Oboh is expected to roll out its activities by next month when the various media organisations will be meant to engage each other in different sporting activities.
