Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Musa Bello has reiterated his determination to improve on the existing facilities and infrastructure in the FCT for the benefit of the residents.
The Minister gave the assurance Tuesday during the maiden interactive session with members of the Senate committee on the FCT at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
Bello told the committee that the FCT Administration has already commenced work on some of the challenges highlighted by the committee, stressing that the necessary machinery has been set in motion to rid the city of refuse and other nuisances.
The Minister said his interactions with the FCTA officials so far have revealed that there are excellent set of laws embedded in the administration, which if strictly followed would lessen the burden of managing the territory.
His words: “Our starting point therefore is that if we must succeed in this enormous task of building the city of our dreams then all officials must follow the laid down rules and regulations”.
He, however, noted that some of the laws are over thirty years old and therefore not in tandem with current realities especially in the area of the city’s present demographic composition; adding that the administration would gladly welcome the support of the committee in reviewing some of these laws.
Bello expressed optimism that the task of making Abuja a world class would be much easier given the commitment and focus of members of the committee, stressing that the FCTA would be very responsive to the committee’s oversight functions.
He added that the Administration looks forward to the committee for cooperation and a robust working relationship in tackling the numerous challenges facing the city.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the chairman of the committee Senator Dino Melaye said the interactive session was an opportunity for the committee to interface with the managers of the territory and to set agenda for the realization of the common goal of making Abuja the pride of all Nigerians.
He assured the Minister that the committee will work closely with him for the actualization of Mr. President’s change agenda.
