Four men have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly killing a 45-year-old farmer, Garba Abdullahi, after accusing him of being responsible for the illness of a man identified as Sawaida Dahiru.
The suspects were identified as Shitu Dahiru, 25; Magaji Dahiru, 42; Sabi’u Auwalu, 20; and Abbah Abdulzahar, 19.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Habib, the incident occurred in Dunari Village, Atahowa District, Bauchi State, while Abdullahi was returning from his farm.
He said the victim’s 35-year-old younger brother reported the attack at the Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters at about 12:35pm on Tuesday.
The PPRO stated that Abdullahi was attacked around 11:40am by the four suspects, who allegedly accused him of causing Dahiru’s illness.
Habib said the suspects allegedly stabbed and macheted the farmer on different parts of his body, leaving him unconscious.
He added that police operatives rushed to the scene after receiving the report and took the victim to the General Hospital, Azare, for treatment.
“However, the victim was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor, while his corpse was released to relatives for burial,” the statement said.
The police spokesman said all four suspects had been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and warned residents against resorting to jungle justice or taking the law into their own hands.
