At least eight people have lost their lives following a bomb explosion suspected to have been planted by terrorists along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The deadly incident occurred on Monday when a vehicle reportedly drove over the improvised explosive device, triggering a blast that resulted in multiple fatalities.
Local sources attributed the attack to suspected terrorists, raising fresh concerns over security in the area.
In addition to the loss of lives, the attackers were said to have blown up a bridge linking the communities of Luma, Babanna and Agwara.
The bridge is considered a critical route for residents, especially traders and commuters who rely on it to access the Babanna border market, which operates weekly.
Community members lamented the development, stressing that the destruction of the bridge would hinder movement and negatively affect economic activities.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The development followed reports of another explosion earlier on Monday in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, where casualties were also recorded.
