Nigerian National Petroleum Company {NNPC Limited) has agreed to settle outstanding bonuses and allowances of the Super Falcons to enable them concentrate on the third-place match of the ongoing 12th Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Super Falcons are billed to battle Zambia for the bronze medals on Friday at the Complexe Mohamed V in Casablanca.
The players are accusing the federation of “promise and fail”, pointing out that the refusal to pay them their accumulated allowances and bonuses informed their decision to boycott their morning training on Wednesday.
Prompt News Online gathered that NNPC Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, agreed to bail the Amaju Pinnick-led Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, out following the intervention of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva.
As at the time of filling this report, it is not known how much the NNPC Limited would release to clear the outstanding bonuses and allowances.
Recall that the nation’s senior female team, Super Falcons had boycotted training on Wednesday, to protest unpaid allowances and bonuses.
Sources told Prompt News Online that the Presidency and top government functionaries were embarrassed by media reports that Super Falcons shunned training to press home their demands.
