Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, has handed over a remodelled, fully furnished 6-bedroom apartment to the family of the late Nollywood make-up artiste, Abigail Frederick.
Making the donation at Ikot Udoma in Eket Local Government Area on Friday,
Eno said that the gesture was in fulfilment of his promise to the family in April.
Represented by Mr Frank Archibong, the
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Eno gave a business support of N1 million to the family.
The governor also gave an additional N1 million to support the education of her two younger sisters.
It would be recalled that Abigail, a Nollywood Make-up artist, died on April 13, following a boat mishap that also claimed the lives of Actor Junior Pope and three others.
Eno who personally visited the grieving family after the incident, offered automatic employment to the deceased’s elder sister.
During the visit, the governor, also pledged to support her two younger sisters through university education, and to renovate their family house.
According to Archibong, the governor’s gesture is a clear demonstration of empathy and fatherly support to the family of the late make-up artist.
“This is purely service to humanity, it is not politically-motivated, I am here to properly handover your renovated building to you,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Nsikanabasi Umoekpo, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Humanitarian Services, said that the building had been completed about a month ago.
“The governor insisted that it should be furnished before being presented to the family,” he said.
Mr Frederick Edet, the deceased father, thanked the governor for standing by the family during their moment of grief.
“On behalf of my family, I thank you for the support, I pray God to bless and strengthen you to serve our dear state,” he said.(NAN).
