The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Gbenga Elegbeleye on Monday named former sprint star and Atlanta Olympics bronze medalist, Mary Onyali as Special Assistant on Technical Matters.
Her engagement letter with reference no: NSC/HRF/APD/DD/RQ/2010/CON/12 and signed by the Director, Human Resources and Finance of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mustapha Muhammed reads:
“Sequel to the appointment of Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye as Director General National Sports Commission, I have been directed to convey to you your engagement as Special Assistant to the Director General.
“Your duties would be as directed by the Director General including advising on technical matters, policy issues, and other general affairs as related to sports administration. You are to report to report to the
Director General for additional information”.
Meanwhile Onyali has been warned by the Director General of the NSC not to dabble into the affairs of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria. She has been directed to stay clear of the AFN.
An elated former track Queen was full of appreciations to the Director General of the National Sports Commission for the recognition given to her and vowed to help the DG NSC develop sports during his tenure.
Her words, “I am beyond words. I cannot express my happiness as regards the appointment given to me by the new DG of the National Sports Commission. This is a step in the right direction for true believers, true sports lovers, true believers of the abundant talents we have in this country and the African nation as a whole.
“For Hon Elegbeleye to deem it fit to appoint me as a Special Assistant (Technical) on Sports means that the likes of me as far as the ex-athletes are concerned are going to see why it is necessary to do the right thing and give your best, the ultimate best at all times for you will be rewarded when the time is right”, she summed up.
