Arising from the need to ensure smooth movement of election personnel and materials before, during and after the upcoming general elections, the Federal Road Safety Corps has doubled its resolve by organising one day training workshop for its personnel across all formations nationwide for efficiency and quality performance.
In a statement by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, he revealed that the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has given an express directive for an immediate commencement of a training workshop for FRSC personnel on election duties nationwide.
The training workshop which is targeted at acquainting them with the roles and responsibilities of FRSC personnel for improved operational prowess during the general elections is themed ‘ Towards 2019 General Elections: FRSC Roles and Responsibilities’.
Among the topics to be discussed are; Expectations of FRSC in elections, Risk and Threat Assessment for 2019 Elections, Security Challenges during elections and roles and responsibilities of the Corps in 2019 elections.
To strengthen proficiency and achieve optimal performance during the period, the Corps Marshal directed the immediate deployment of all operational ambulances and Tow Trucks to strategic locations across the country for emergency rescue services, and to clear any form of obstructions and swift removal of broken down vehicles before, during and after the elections.
Expectedly, Oyeyemi also approved the urgent deployment of management team and other senior officers to ensure effective monitoring of the electoral processes and adequate compliance with electoral laws.
You will recall that during the recently concluded strategy session of the Corps at the National Headquarters, the chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu emphatically outlined the critical role of FRSC in the 2019 general elections.
According to Yakubu, FRSC personnel are to support the movement of election personnel, security personnel and materials to designated polling booths. Facilitate on time and efficient delivery of election personnel and materials and collaborate with other security agencies to enforce restriction of movement on elections day and crowd control around polling centres.
Others are, screening and profiling of drivers to be engaged in election duty and inspection of vehicles to be used for conveyance of election personnel and materials.
