President Goodluck Jonathan is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recaptures Ekiti and Osun states from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Consequently, the President is meeting stakeholders in the party to strategize on how governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti and his Osun state counterpart, Rauf Aregbesola could be sent packing from their respective Government Houses.
President Jonathan on Wednesday night, met with all the PDP Governors at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa before the National Caucus meeting of the party.
Confirming the meeting, Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue state said the focus of the meeting was how to win back some of the governors that recently defected to the APC.
He also said they are concerned about the dwindling fortunes of the party, saying efforts would now be geared towards addressing it and charting the way forward so that the party could reclaim Ekiti and Osun states.
Suswam said, “First we met with the President as PDP governors to discuss issues of the party and the way forward and that meeting is continuing.
“The issues discussed with the President were basically on how to re-strategize and re-position our party and how to move forward as a party.
“The concern is that the fortunes of our party are dwindling and so we need to address that. How do we re-position our party to win the forthcoming elections in Ekiti and Osun.
“How do we win back our colleagues that have stepped aside, we don’t believe that they have left the party, they only stepped aside. These are the issues that were raised”.
Prompt News Online recalls that five governors recently defected to the APC in protest against what they considered the high-handedness of the embattled national chairman, Bamanga Tukur.
The five governors are: Ahmed Abdulfatah (Kwara), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Muritala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto) defected to the APC.
