The Ekiti State Development Union (ESDU) has called for a “water-tight” security throughout Ekiti State before, during and after the June 21 governorship election, alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the State was out to cause mayhem during the election.”
The group, which described call by the State Governor, Kayode Fayemi that the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Felix Uyanna and Commander of Police Mobile Force in Ado-Ekiti, Gabriel Selenkere be removed as reckless, added that; “Fayemi should rather tell Nigerians why he ignored the advice by the Commissioner of Police that he should not go to the scene of the last Sunday fracas.”
According to a release issued in Ado-Ekiti today, by the ESDU and signed by its Chairman, Pastor Yemi Olayinka and Secretary, Mr Foluso Oguntoyinbo, the group said it was disheartening that Fayemi could attempt to use his office to provide security cover for criminals, who were unleashing terror on innocent residents of Ado-Ekiti.
ESDU said; “If Fayemi is claiming that he rushed to Ijigbo, Ado-Ekiti, scene of the fracas as the Chief Security Officer of Ekiti State, why did he not do the same when Adeleye Awolumate, Michael Ipinlaye, Kehinde Fajuyi, Ayo Jeje, Juliana Adewumi, Teslim Abiola and Foluso Ogundare were murdered by APC thugs?”
ESDU, which commended the Police for the professional manner in which the rampaging APC thugs were curtailed, lamented that Governor Fayemi could go to the extent of claiming that the murdered Taiwo Akinola was a member of the APC, when indeed, he was not.
The group said no amount of propaganda and media spinning can cover the truth, adding that; “Fayemi and his APC deceits never knew that picture of Taiwo’s corpse, putting on a red coloured long sleeve shirt had already been taken before they covered his corpse with APC vest.”
“It was their obvious rejection by Ekiti people that has made them to be going about attacking innocent people of Ekiti, with the aim of scaring people from coming out to vote on June 21.
“It was also because, for the first time, the police decided to be professional that Fayemi and his ilks are now everywhere, calling for the heads of the Commissioner of Police and MOPOL Commander.
“We are therefore calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to provide adequate security during this election because from the look of things, what is only left for Fayemi and his APC is violence because they have been rejected by Ekiti people,” the group said.
