Eight people were confirmed dead on Thursday following a multiple-vehicle crash on Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said in a statement that the accident involved two heavy-duty trucks, one of which, along with a container-laden trailer, caught fire.
Another vehicle reportedly plunged off the bridge into the river below.
According to an update posted by LASTMA on X, “A multiple road crash occurred involving a truck and a container-laden trailer that went up in flames. Another truck spilled its load of cartons of biscuits on the road, while a container-laden truck rammed into the bridge barrier, causing its carrier to fall into the river. Eight casualties recorded.”
The incident caused a severe traffic gridlock along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and adjoining routes, including Ogunnusi Road.
