The Technical Director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Augustine Owen Eguavoen has praised the leadership of the federation for the return of the much sort after Confederation of African Football (CAF) Grade A Coaching Certificate Course which will start in Abuja on September 13 after nine years hiatus.
This is even as no fewer than 25 top Nigerian coaches including the assistants coaches of the Super Eagles Fidelis Ilechukwu and
Daniel Ogunmodede as well Rivers United head coach George Finidi are among the candidates shortlisted to attend the upcoming
course in Abuja.
Speaking at the Workshop on the Presentation of the Amateur Football Environment Analysis (AFEA) in Nigeria organised by NFF in conjunction with FIFA Global Football Development held in Abuja from August 18 to 20, 2026, Eguavoen said that the return of CAF-A Licence Course to Nigeria is one of the legacies of the current NFF Executive Committee led by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
According to him, the highly regarded CAF-A Licence Course has not been held in Nigeria for almost a decade, pointing out that the inability of the country to organise the course has denied many Nigerian coaches the opportunity to earn the higher certification required to handle higher responsibilities.
Said he: “I am proud to say that this present NFF regime has worked hard to bring back CAF coaching courses especially CAF-A and B Licence Courses which have not been held since 2017 but which the Ibrahim Gusau regime has worked very hard to bring back to Nigeria”.
The former Super Eagles captain also revealed that aside from the 25 lucky coaches who will attend the course in Abuja, the NFF has gotten the consent of CAF to organise a Refresher Course for Nigerian coaches who had done the CAF-A Licence Course but where not certified by the Confederation for not completing the modules.
Recall that the NFF has organised CAF-B and C Licenses for Nigerian coaches in recent time unlike in the past nine years when CAF stopped Nigeria from organising the courses in the country.
