The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Wahab and Subomi, sons of billionaire industrialist Rasaq Okoya, over a viral video showing them allegedly abusing the naira.
The video, which surfaced last week, showed the brothers spraying bundles of cash while being assisted by their police escort. The footage sparked widespread outrage on social media, prompting calls for action.
As gathered by Politics Nigeria, the EFCC’s invitation to the brothers was issued by Michael Wetkas, a senior official of the commission.
Meanwhile, on January 10, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced that the officer involved in the incident had been arrested and detained. Adejobi stated that the officer would face strict disciplinary measures for engaging in unethical behavior.
“The policeman captured in the viral video shared by the sons of Lagos businessman Chief Okoya, where the naira was abused, has been identified and is currently in detention facing disciplinary action,” Adejobi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
He added, “The involvement of the policeman has been condemned as unethical. We are committed to upholding the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police force.”
